Lecture 4: 13.10.14. INDEPENDENT STUDY PRESENTATION/DISCUSSION

Seminar:

My independent study.

Presentations and discussions.

  • My work for independent study so far is concerned with the contemplative nature of time.
  • Birth, life and death, three stages of existance and non existance.
  • Passage.
  • How much time we spend living vs non living
  • Routine
  • The day to day
  • Taking time for granted
  • Everything is rushed and timed, scheduled, one thing to another.
  • Dates
  • I have been taking notes and recording daily activities that form the monotonous norm.
  • "the things" we spend a lot of time doing without thought
  • Brushing teeth, sitting in front of a tv, cleaning, worrying, writing lists, eating, going to school, getting a job, getting a mortgage, money, death.
  • I am interested in the spaces between, the still moments of contemplation. or the after effects of seeing these things highlighted
  • The pause
  • We all have moments of thought, can we establish clarity, thoughtfulness, engagement with the world
  • My work is to highlight exaggerate, elongate, extend, stretch. Give physical form to that feeling.
  • This concern and interest comes from my fear of death and anxiety surrounding the routine and things we have t get done before being able to live. everything is a rush.
  • Meditative, the zen in chaos.
  • Looking at Bill Viola, and Kiefer mostly.
  • Can objects help
